Distance is a drag

All of us have at some stage had to overcome the problems posed by the modern requirement for multiple room, multiple floor hub systems.
The distances involved and the need for digital signal types can lead to expensive proprietary extenders being used to ‘buss’ signal to their destination.
Part of the Extron ‘Technology on the road’ seminar we recently attended highlighted the advances in the technologies to achieve ‘digital distance’ and one idea seems both simple and convergent
Although all modern corporate’s are flood wired with copper cat5 cabling on the office floors, the back bone between floors and in fact between comms rooms on floors are more commonly fibre optic. Extron’s varied range of fibre optic units allow the AV system designer to use these fibres to run a multitude of different signal types over extreme distances (up to 30Km) without signal degradation.
The intrinsic benefits’ of optical transmission are huge when it comes to distance, no magnetic interference, no RF interference no cable capacitance issues to name just a few.
We have already started planning a rolling fibre upgrade into the annual upgrades of several of our major clients based on the impressive cost effectiveness and efficiency of Extron’s new products!
And it is worth remembering the appreciable ‘green’ benefits of fibre optic when new systems are being designed
